The Institute for Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems (BIFI) of the University of Zaragoza is a research center developing basic research and applications of complexity concepts and methods to different phenomena in fields such as: Biochemistry, Physics, Biology, Computing, Mathematics and Citizen Science. It is financially supported by the Government of Aragon and the University of Zaragoza.
LACRIMA (Laboratorio Avanzado de CRibado e Interacciones Moleculares de Aragón), the experimental facility located at BIFI, comprises advanced research infrastructure in molecular biophysics for the characterization of relevant pharmacological and biotechnological protein targets (protein stability and folding, protein interactions, protein function and regulation) with a direct application to the identification of bioactive compounds able to modulate (inhibition or activation) their function. State-of-the-art experimental instrumentation is available for protein expression and purification, biological calorimetry and spectroscopy, as well as for screening of chemical libraries.
