Molecular Oncology Laboratory

The Molecular Oncology Group (MOL) studies the mechanisms that control the initiation and progression of cancer. For this purpose, we model on genetically modified models the most relevant lesions associated with the oncogenic process, combining the activation of oncogenes and the activation of tumor suppressors involved in these tumors. This allows us to replicate and control the process in vitro and in vivo using conditional and induced systems. This enables us to develop new therapeutic approaches by identifying new possible therapeutic targets based on the information we obtain.Our findings lead us also to develop new diagnostic tools based on functional optical imaging (bioluminescence, fluorescence), mainly biosensors, such as for the detection of hypoxia, a phenomenon associated with neovascularization in many cancers.
